Jerry Thompson – track
Jerry Thompson died at 98. At UT, he was a 3-time national champion in the NCAA two-mile in 1943 and 1947, and the 5,000 meters in 1948. He is also a 4-time SWC champion in cross country, and in the Southwest Conference, he claimed seven individual titles, including the 800-yard, mile, and two-mile events.. He competed in the 1948 London Olympics and is an inductee into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the UT Hall of Honor, the Drake Relays Hall of Fame, and the Texas Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame (Class of 2016).
