1986-9 Scores At Nationals- Stan Huntsman- 3rd at the National meet outdoor

1986- finished 3rd at the outdoor championships –  Eric Metcalf, Dag Wennlund, and James Lott won individual national championships,

 

1986 mens track front row Patrick Sang, Stan Huntsman, Mitch Long Back Row_ Earl Laing, Doug Lowell, Joseph Chelelgo

Finished 3rd in the SWC- Pablo Squella, James Lott,  and Eric Metcalf lead the team.   Finish 5th in the indoor championships. At the Texas relays Leach, Laing, Patterson, and Squella set a stadium record for the sprint medley relay . Sang wins the 3000 steeplechase and Wennlund defends his javelin title. 

 

1987-5  Scores At Nationals- Stan Huntsman And Runner-Up For Outdoor National Championship. –

Horns finished 12th in the indoor NCAA championships.

Texas lost to Arkansas in the SWC. It ended a two year reign as SWC champions.

 Texas finishes 4th in the SWC.  4 qualifying athletes help Texas finish 15 out of 50 at Nationals

1990-1991-6 Scores At Nationals- Coach Stan Huntsman

After a bad indoor season, the 1990 men’s track team prepared for the outdoor season. Horns finished 3rd nationally in the indoor meet. Led by Patrick Boden and Quintus Hampton, the team performed beyond expectations. These Horns had a serious shot at winning the national championship. The team beat UCLA, who had not lost a dual track meet in the last 50 competitions. Qualifiers for the NCAA championship included Noyes Livingston, Scotty Miller, Warren Smith, and Lance Wilson.

Scotty Miller 5th In Pole Vault at nationals- sets a school record pole vault in both indoor and outdoor.

Horns place 5th in the NCAA outdoor championship, the 5th top-5 finish in Stan Huntsman’s 6 seasons at Texas.

The 4 x 400 relay won the event for the first time in 15 years at the Texas Relays. Keith Keller set 9 personal bests to finish second in the decathlon.

  Patrick Boden in 1989, 1990, and 1991 is the National Outdoor Champion in the Javelin. He is also 

NCAA and UT record holder – 292-4 (89.10m) – 1990
– Three-time NCAA Champion (1989-91)
– Three-time All-American
– Undefeated in collegiate competition (12 meets over 3 years)

 

Patrick Boden joined Jerry Thompson and James Lott as a three-time winner of the NCAA championship meet.

Eric Polonski tied for high-scoring honors at the SWC indoor meet.  Outdoors SWC Texas placed 1 through 4 in the decathlon. Keith Keller won the event. This was Texas’ first outdoor win in the SWC since 1987. It was the first time that Texas won the triple crown (cross country, outdoor, indoor.) since 1973-1974. Outdoor Horns finished 15th. 

1991 -1992-2 Scores At Nationals- Stan Huntsman SWC champions

1992- Texas wins the first SWC indoor since 1975.  

Arkansas leaves the SWC for the SEC and for the first time in 11 straight years the Horns win the SWC indoor and outdoor championship. Eric Polonski, a distance runner, and Lance Wilson lead the team. The pole vaulters take 1-2-3 and 5 in this event. Keith Keller wins the decathalon , and Tyrone Scott wins the broad jump.

Track Coaches

 

1993-2 Scores Scores At Nationals- Stan Huntsman

1993 indoor- Texas wins the SWC with 30 points from Steve Sisson and Eric Polonski.  Pole vaulters captured the top 3 spots. Du’Aine Ladejo was the first Longhorn to win the 400 SWC in an indoor meet.  Alan Luther the All-swc football player finished 5th in the shot put in his first meet.  In the national meet, Steve Sisson finished 3rd in the 5000 meters shattering the school record by 8 seconds.   

1993 – outdoor-  Todd Lockwood won the decathlon at the SWC meet.  Steve Sisson was high point man for the Horns.   

Men win the SWC indoor title. Eric Polonski and J.J. Miller also win their events in the SWC meet.

Steve Sisson is 5th nationally In 10,000. He places first in the SWC meet in the 5000.

Du’aine Ladejo was 6th nationally In 400 and held 8 of the 10 fastest 400 meters in Texas Longhorn track history.

Du’aine and James Colbert are hurt for the indoor national meet which has negative consequences for the Longhorns. In the outdoor season, Ladejo is back and the Horns are second in the Texas 1600 relay.

1994-3 Scores Scores At Nationals- Stan Huntsman SWC Champs and SWC Coach of the Year.



Last SWC Championship before moving to the Big 12. It is their 4th straight outdoor SWC championship. Aaron Fox is 2nd in the decathlon. Wayne Guidry wins the pole vault for the Longhorns. It is the first time in 18 year the Longhorns win the pole vault.

Richard Duncan is high scorer in the SWC event with a win in the high jump and a 3rd in the triple jump and broad jump.

Richard was the first SWC athlete to medal in three events.
