Robert “Bob” Caperton Rowan

Acworth – Robert “Bob” Caperton Rowan, passed away at the age of 67 on Saturday, January 16th 2021, surrounded by his loved ones after fighting a long and debilitating battle with dementia.

Bob was born November 9th, 1953 in Frankfurt, Germany to Elwyn “Rip” Phillips Rowan and Patricia (Campbell) Rowan. His earliest years were spent growing up with his 5 siblings in Greensboro, North Carolina and later in Memphis, Tennessee.

He graduated from White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was a standout in athletics, specifically for his role on the varsity football team. He attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship. After college he went on to marry Martha Jane (Patterson) Rowan. He worked a career in sales.

Bob and Martha raised their four children in Marietta, Georgia. Bob was an active part of the community, often found coaching his children’s various sports teams. When he wasn’t coaching, he could be seen roaming the sidelines of practices and games. If you knew Bob, you were laughing. He knew how to light up the room with his dry sense of humor and wit. Bob was never one to shy away from lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends. He was loved by all.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughters, Anne Rowan and fiancé Aaron Reeder, Leigh Rowan; sons, Robert “Bobby” Rowan Jr and wife Amy Rowan, and Elwyn “Rip” Rowan; grandchildren, Rowan, Grace, Turner, Hudson, Ruth and Madison; brothers, Mike Rowan, Steve Rowan and wife Lori; sisters, Anne Johnson and husband Keith, Lynne Anderson and husband Tunstall; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elwyn “Rip” and Patricia Rowan; brother, Phillip Rowan; sister-in-law, Lorraine Rowan.

Bob’s immediate family will hold a small private ceremony. Celebration of Life ceremony to follow in the Spring/Summer of 2021 when it’s safe to gather. Details to follow in the upcoming months.
