Longhorns Shine In Paris 2024 by Larry Carlson https://texaslsn.org
The medals for Longhorns and UT alums just keep on coming in Paris.
Swimmers and track stars have made their marks and collected awards but Scottie Scheffler and Ryan Crouser are the absolute Texas headliners.
Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, surged from six intimidating strokes behind after nine holes on Sunday to strike unlikely. He rolled in six birdies after the turn and carded a ridiculous 62. A video showing a grateful Scheffler sobbing at the conclusion of the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner went viral.
Crouser, the compelling 6-7, 320-pound strongman from Boring, Oregon, won an unprecedented third gold in the shot put. The 31-year-old, who studied both engineering and economics while at UT, previously won Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
Noted for a scientific approach to his field events, his diet and training regimen,
Crouser has set and re-set world records in the shot put, bettering a mark that stood for more than three decades and was set during the doping, Cold War era.
