Rusty is #1 In January 1974 Rusty Allen walked on the football team. The next fall Coach Royal awarded him a partial scholarship that eventually converted to a full ride his last 2 ½ years. Rusty earned his T-ring in 1976.

1980- John Goodson
John Goodson was a walk-on barefoot field goal kicker that impressed Akers with his talents. Akers eye for talent resulted in Goodson’s 3 for 3 against Oklahoma. A familiar phrase from Akers those days is “Thank goodness for Goodson.”
