Eddie Southern has passed away.
Eddie Southern was an SWC champion, NCAA Champion, world record holder, and Olympic Silver medalist.
He is an inductee into the Longhorn Hall of Honor, Texas Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Sunset High Hall of Fame, and the Drake Relays Hall of Fame.

ALWAYS ON THE RUN: THE BAKER’S DOZEN OF UT Running Backs

If you’re honest, even though you’re burnt orange-blooded, you can’t really contend that UT is Running Back University.
There’s a case for Southern Cal. Five Heisman winners among the Trojan hosses at running back.
So what if one ended up more famous for a Ford Bronco chase and another was stripped of the honor and now stars in Wendy’s commercials? Let’s call USC the closest thing to an inarguable RBU. Bama hasn’t been too shabby, especially of late. And Penn State has a pretty good menu of ground chuck.
But the Longhorns are definitely in the mix, up in the high-end neighborhood to stake a claim to the top tier.
To say that the University of Texas has had a wealth of talent at running the ball over the years might be considered a mild understatement. The modern DKR era onward got rolling with the flip-flop, transitioned to the grinding, clock-killing, three yards and a cloud of dust focus, then shifted to the ultra-successful wishbone for two Natties , a 30-game win streak, and six straight Southwest Conference titles. And that was all ancient BC…before Campbell, usually known just as Earl.
And ol’ Earl played his last game in burnt orange more than 45 years ago.
There have been more than a few stud running backs — speedsters, bruisers, and hybrids — since then.

The 1954 Longhorn basketball team’s record is still the worse in the history of Longhorn basketball, BUT two of their four wins were against the Aggies- whoops!

Feb. 12, 1955: Texas defeats Texas A&M in College Station 80-76. The contest marked the highest-scoring game in series history at that time (156 points). Ellis Olmstead secured a Longhorns victory with a basket and free throw in the last 30 seconds. Raymond Downs led the way with 39 points and set a SWC record for free throws made (23). TLSN is a 501 (c)(3) Longhorn Sports historical website with a compassionate component.
Fortunately, most, but not all, former Longhorn student-athletes and support staff personnel have successfully transitioned to the job market with health insurance and loss of income safety nets.
Still, help is needed for some, and TLSN donors have opened hearts and wallets to extend a helping hand. Those who have qualified for assistance have received grants from TLSN varying from $2000 to $25,000.
