Lionel Garr has passed away; timing for former Head Coach Fred Akers celebration of life is set.

Billy, I’m not sure if you heard or not, but Lionel Garr passed away suddenly on Monday. He was an OL in the early 2000s.

Great guy and a good friend.

He was standing in line at CVS and had a massive heart attack, was pronounced dead in the ambulance.

With heavy hearts, we announce Lionel Lee Garr’s death in Houston, Texas. He passed away on December 20, 2020, at the age of 38. Lionel Garr was a 6-6, 330-pound Offensive Tackle from Diboll, TX., who committed to the Texas Longhorns. As you can see from the photo, he is a proud T-ring recipient.

The Akers Family will be celebrating the life of Coach Fred Akers on January 12th at 11 am.

Please mark your calendars and make plans to join virtually. Due to the pandemic, attendance of the services will be held via Live Stream only. The website is clcaustin.com/fredakers.

Mrs. Akers is also asking for remarks regarding Coach Akers. All players/coaches who would like to make comments regarding Coach will do so by submitting a brief (10-15) second video. Details and video instructions for submission will be made available next week. We will send the instructions as soon as we receive them.
