Rosey left football with a message that should resonate with young athletes. “Athletics, they cannot take away from you. Education is forever.”

Longhorn football player Lonnie Bennett wrote an article for Sports News on 11/9/1973.  Lonnie said  “Roosevelt has a  deep, quiet drive to succeed. He is intense but doesn’t speak much unless he is well-versed in the subject. His two notable traits are his quietness and strong desire to excel. Roosevelt believes in proving himself before contributing to the team, leading by example rather than words. Despite being just 20, he has great insight into people and a knack for understanding them. Growing up in the country gave him a clear perspective. He is straightforward and reserved until he knows people well. Roosevelt’s image as a black superstar might not help current recruiting but will influence young athletes in the future.
