CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Longhorn Bart Shirley has died after a lengthy illness.

After graduating from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Bart attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball and football. His athletic talent and work ethic caught the attention of Major League scouts, and he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, beginning a professional baseball career that would span the globe.
