2019 is the 150th year of college football and the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Longhorn national championship team.

The Cotton Bowl victory against Notre Dame was the 20th victory of a 30 game win streak built around the 1967 “Worster Bunch” recruiting class.

In the Que for this newsletter is the history of the Longhorn football teams 30 game win streak starting in 1968 and ending in 1971 and the story of the players who made it so.

1969- One teammate loss away form a perfect season

Including in the Que are 3 books written about the 1969 team by authors Dent, Yousse, and Frei, a written mini-documentary on the loss of Freddie Steinmark , and a special article about the relationship between Bobby Mitchell and Freddie Steinmark.

There are also two new books on the market about the 1969 team. Author Mark McDonald and Mike Looney both have spent years researching the ‘69 Horns. Ordering information is in the Que.

Mike Looney is the consummate story teller. Creator of the Big Shootout documentary, and instrumental in the production of the movie Freddie Steinmark- “My All American” Mike Looney’s story is captured in a video in the Que.

 

Mark McDonald says his book took 60 years of living and football, plus two years of research and writing, to focus on the Shootout’s aftermath. To support this action-packed account of history, the book features original illustrations by award-winning cartoonist Bill DeOre – who once worked with McDonald at the Dallas Morning News – plus more than 100 period photos.
 
 

Texas Legacy Support Network is a 501 (C) (3) tax exempt helping qualifying former Longhorn student athletes, coaches, managers, trainers, and their immediate families. Presently TLSN is helping a former Longhorn football player who in 1998 was in a horrendous car accident that forever changed his life. Bound to a wheel chair for 21 years and working for Goodwill, Tyres Dickson reached out for a temporary financial help. UT approved the TLSN mission and from May 2019- January 2020 will grant between $1000 to $1200 a month to help him. The TLSN mission is supported by the NCAA and UT compliance departments. Donations are always appreciated and needed to help the next qualifying applicant for assistance. TLSN wants to change the world for one Longhorn at a time.
