Tom Pender’s 1988-1989 team is one of those great teams and Travis Mays and Joey Wright are part of the reason why.

If you think that the worse Longhorn sports infractions occurred in football, you are wrong.

1901- Longhorn Baseball Team

After a road swing, the UT president tells Coach Ellis that two baseball players are ineligible due to grades and could no longer represent UT in baseball. The team and Coach revolted against the President and decided to pay one of the ineligible players way on an Eastern road trip. The President sent a telegram stating that the entire team would be held responsible if that player saw action.

He played, and the President followed through with his threat. The whole traveling squad is declared ineligible. Even after all the lettermen were released, the substitutes won 4 of the next five games. The only loss 17-1 was to a team formed by the ineligible players.

Baseball rule infractions occurred again in 1910. Tensions were so great this year that a motion was made to the Athletic Council to abolish baseball as an intercollegiate sport.

Instead, Billy Disch was hired, and in a short period of time, Disch resolved a decade worth of frustrations.

Closing in on being fully subscribed on the National Championship busts. I’m proud to say we are 85% funded with pledges for another 5%. The unveiling will be this fall.

These works of art will be crowned with busts of the 4 quarterbacks on top of black marble pedestals with all the players’ names from each team etched in gold on them as well as the donors to the project. If ever there was an affordable and worthwhile opportunity to be remembered for your support of Longhorn football, IMO, this is it. $250 immortalizes your loyalty to the Texas Longhorn program forever.

James Street is fully funded and closed, and Duke Carlisle is very close to being fully funded.

We still need donations for Phillips and Young.

We are working on having Roger Staubach in attendance to say a few words about Duke, Huston Street, or Jane Street to speak about James and some other prominent people to do the same for Eddie and Vince.
