Shot putter Robbie Robinson 1976 -A cap returned after a 36-year journey

By Rey Moreno

Rey Moreno was part of the Longhorn track team in 1975 and 1976 and shared a story about his good friend Robbie Robinson and Robbie’s father.

UT Track hosted a national track meet in 1976. Shot putter Robbie Robinson’s father noticed the cap I was wearing and asked where he could purchase one. I told him that Rooster Andrews may have one. Unfortunately, Mr. Robinson could not find the cap in any sports store because the cap was purchased exclusively by Texas track Coach Price as the moniker for the track officials.

After his son qualified for All-American honors , Mr. Robinson again commented on my cap. I knew he wanted a special cap to wear and celebrate the memory’s of his sons triumph.

Even though it was stained with sweat rings, I offered him my cap and he accepted. 36 years later Robbie’s dad tells him he is finished using the cap and says it time to return it.

Here is proof that my cap was returned. The Cap was returned along with note. The cap is a little worn and out of shape, but is has a story behind it so I will keep it and share this story forward.

Best wishes to you and your family.
