Baxter Braband Obituary

BAXTER JAMES BRABAND, while playing the ultimate round of golf, witnessed by his most cherished friends, at his 35th annual Hackers Golf Tournament, left this life to be received into the welcoming arms of our loving Father on Saturday, May 17, 2014.
Born in Angleton, TX, on July 19, 1949, to Buddie and Dean Braband, Baxter lived his life to the fullest. After graduating from Spring Woods High School, a football scholarship earned him a spot on the University of Texas football team, coached by Darrell Royal. Baxter would finish his B.S. degree at the University of Houston while starting his family and working for his uncles and father at B&C Construction. A short time later, Baxter started his own construction company, Braband Building Systems, and grew the company into a multi-million dollar operation. His greatest source of pride was working alongside his son, daughter, and son-in-law, as they assisted in the operations of the company. Baxter married the love of his life in 1968, Kay Barnett Braband. The two were inseparable – a complete pair. A fun, loving, comedic couple that could play off each other’s humorous spontaneity, always bringing a smile or chuckle to friends, family, and even strangers. Baxter’s generosity was extensive, his compassion heart-warming. His laugh was contagious, his jokes timeless. Being the oldest of three brothers and a sister, Baxter and his siblings developed an ear for music and a talent for comedy.
Baxter was preceded in death by his sweet and loving mother, Dean Braband. Left to cherish the memories of this larger than life man, his loving wife of 46 years, Kay; his father and stepmother, Buddie and Diane Braband; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Gina Braband; his daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Caleb Davis; brothers, Randy Braband and Robert and wife Vickie Braband; and sister, Pam and husband Charlie Dowell. Pawpaw Baxter was blessed with six beautiful grandchildren, Logan, Corbin, and Brendon Braband, and Jonah, Cameron, and Taryn Davis. Baxter will be missed by numerous family members, close friends, and business associates.
Visitation will held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Klein Funeral Home, Champions. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Dr., Houston, with a brief visitation to begin at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be Tim Parker, Joe Stutts, Mike Rush, Larry Stegent, Mike Lawder, and Mike Bennett.
For those desiring, contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Heart Association or the John Wesley United Methodist Church Building Fund.
“Making one person smile can change the world, maybe not the whole world, but their world.” Baxter Braband changed the world for many. His laugh, his jokes, and his enthusiasm for life will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
