oct. 2019 newsletter

In the Next newsletter dated October 3, 2019 , the information below will be in the que.

The generosity of Clyde Rabb Littlefield is allowing the Stark Center to establish a new lecture series. Our first Clyde Rabb Littlefield Lecture features Asher Price, author of the highly acclaimed biography, Earl Campbell: Yards After Contact. Using pictures and video, Price will explore Campbell’s historic football career in Tyler, Austin, and as a Houston Oiler. Price will then participate in a moderated Q&A with Department of Kinesiology & Health Education faculty member, Tolga Ozyurtcu. The lecture at the Connally Ballroom in the Texas Exes building begins at 3:30 on October 17 and is free and open to everyone.

What want be in the the newsletter is this invitation from Doctor Jan Todd:

Billy,

It was great seeing you yesterday and I again thank you for the work you do in preserving UT’s sport heritage.

I’m writing today, however, to ask you to please invite the members of the 1969 National Championships Team to the Stark Center’s 10th Anniversary Party on October 17th.   As you know, we have many items from both Darrell Royal and Mack Brown in our collections and we’re putting up a special exhibit about the two of them.  We also have many more items on display that they may find of interest related to  UT’s sport legacy.  Anyway, here are the details—and our poster for the Littlefield Lecture. I hope they and you will be able to join us.

All best wishes…Jan

The venue is small so Jan has allocated 30 (including wives) of the invitations for members of the 1966-1970 recruiting class. If you want to attend this private party please send your information to WilliamDale@msn.com ,and it will be processed for admission. Only 30 are available so time is of the essence if you want to attend.

Here is the information from Jan

Following the lecture, invited guests (like you) should walk to Gate 16 on the north end of DKR Texas Memorial Stadium where you will be given a name tag for the Stark Center Tenth Anniversary Reception.  You are welcome to come directly to the fifth floor where the Stark Center is located or, you may want to take a few minutes to see the new Frank Denius Family University of Texas Athletics Hall of Fame. It will stay open for our guests until 5:15 (it normally closes at 4:30). Special thanks to our good friends in Texas Athletics for this kindness. On the Fifth Floor we’ll be serving drinks and food beginning at 4:45 and will have a number of new displays for people to see.  There will be short remarks at 6:00 PM.  You are, of course, welcome to come to the reception without attending the lecture.

These events are being co-sponsored by the Texas Exes Alumni Association and their Forty Acres Scholars Program.  We are delighted to be partnering with the Exes for this important milestone in the Center’s history and are grateful to them for their support.
