THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IS IN A RECORD BOOK.

Inquisitive minds want to know.

Did our famous Hall of Honor inductee and past U.T. Athletic Director #81 Mike Perrin make the tackle on O.J. Simpson #32 in the 1966-1967 USC game?

Mike Perrin says “ I cannot remember the end of that play. Too many years ago! But, he (O.J.) did not get outside of me-I was playing left end.”

Walk-ons have to wear many hats and learn to balance a heavy load.

Managers and Trainers are an important factor in building the Longhorn brand and their record proves it.

Researching the history of Longhorn managers and trainers has been a very difficult process. Photos and research material are scarce. There are now several stories on the TLSN site. Some are Reflection Points and some are humorous.

Read with a smile and with a sense of humor the article titled “Where Have All the footballs gone”?

For the Record – Coaches are real people too.

Piper Wagner (Longhorn golf 1987-1992) Left the Longhorn nation too soon. She was diagnosed with cancer in March 2011 and passed away in August of 2014.

Piper  tells a story about her golf coach that many former UT student-athletes will understand. Piper says a friend of Coach Weis had passed away, and Piper went over to Coach and said: “I’m sorry about your friend, Coach.” Piper said Coach Weis’s eyes teared up, and Coach could not speak, so she touched her heart with her hand. Piper said, ” I was shocked to see her that way”. “In college, all I thought about was me”. “People like Coach, they weren’t real people. Looking back on it now, it is so strange! We were just kids, completely self-centered. I certainly didn’t think about her having a life outside of coaching our team”.

Piper’s comments are very insightful and reflect many coach/student-athlete relationships. I experienced the same epiphany with Coach Royal after he suffered a family tragedy. It was such a surprise for me to see him grieve. Like Piper- as a young, self-centered person- I was shocked at Coach Royal shedding tears.
